Casa Rossini is a museum dedicated to the great composer Gioachino Rossini. It is located in Pesaro, in the small house in which Rossini was born in February 1792, and where he spent his early life with his family. The building consists of four floors, plus a basement, and was built in different stages between the 15th and 18th centuries. Of the original building and features, we can still admire the shutters of the arched windows, the fireplaces, and some of the elements from an old kitchen. Most of the items on display come from late 19th-century collections. The largest collection comes from Paris and mainly consists of prints and etchings, lithographs and portraits that belonged to Alphonse Hubert Martel, collector of Rossini memorabilia. Since July 2015, following changes to the layout, Casa Rossini has added to its display items, thanks to collaboration with the Fondazione Rossini, which has made loans of new documents, including letters and scores written by the composer himself, original librettos from Rossini’s operas, and the digitalisation of whole scores.
Casa Rossini is part of the “Museo di tutti e per tutti” [museums for everyone] promoted by the Marches Region in collaboration with the Omero State Tactile Museum in Ancona, which supports accessibility for cultural locations. Two video guides have been made in Italian Sign Language with subtitles in Italian, specifically, for deaf visitors. Both are available on the website, as well as on the Museum’s YouTube channel. The two videos introduce the visitor to the musical route through the museum and provide a general guide to the life of great composer, Gioachino Rossini.
