Museo Pietro Canonica

Internationally famous sculptor, Pietro Canonica (1869-1959), trained in late 19th-century Turin before spending long periods in the courts of Europe, where he was commissioned to create portraits and commemorative monuments. He moved to Rome in 1922 and in 1927, to the building inside Villa Borghese, which is now home to the museum that bears his name. The museum has seven rooms in which the works – copies and originals – of Pietro Canonica are displayed. The oldest wing of the building contains the apartment in which the artist lived and worked from 16 August 1927 until 8 June 1959, the date of his death. The apartment was opened to the public in 1988 and is part of the museum visit.

Accessibility for deaf people

The Pietro Canonica Museum is part of the Musei in Comune network as well as of the accessibility programme, “Musei da toccare”, with tactile aids for blind visitors. To offer deaf people a full and complete museum experience, it projects a video in Italian sign language, with subtitles, on a mutimedia support.  The Italian sign language video, which lasts about 3 minutes and is available online, welcomes deaf visitors and introduces the route of the visit.
