Centrale Montemartini

The Centrale Montemartini contains some 400 Roman statues, together with epigraphs and mosaics, in the extraordinary setting of industrial architecture. The building, which was inaugurated in 1912, was the first public plant producing energy belonging to the “Municipal Electric Company”, now ACEA. The Centrale di Montemartini is an extremely successful example of the conversion of an industrial building into a museum. Masterpieces of ancient sculpture are enhanced by a setting that on one hand, evokes the monumental greatness of Ancient Rome, and on the other, the memory of one of Rome’s first industrial settings.

Accessibility for deaf people

The Centrale Montemartini is part of the Musei in Comune network as well as of the accessibility programme, “Musei da toccare” with tactile aids. To offer deaf visitors a pleasant, complete visit, an Italian Sign Language video has been made, complete with subtitles.  The video, which is shown on a multimedia support inside the building, greets the visitor and introduces him or her to the exhibition route. The sign language video is also available online. Through Zètema, Roma Capitale services company, it is also possible to reserve (email to didattica@zetema.it or tel. 060608) guided Museum visits, with Italian Sign Language translator or guide.
